It's an interesting premise and the game was pretty cozy and relaxing, but I feel like there need to be more upgrades because once I got 1 - 2 beacon active, I can buy off a bunch of the build upgrade right of the bat, making most of the grind trivial at that point as I can just jump from place to place, and once 4 - 5+ beacon is unlocked, I pretty much don't need to care too much about any of the upgrades (build or otherwise) and can just max out all their upgrade with just 1 click using the "max" buying option.
Not that buying and maximizing upgrade is bad, it certainly give of a "I'm so rich now, Woo!" feel which is pretty nice, but it also make the rest of the game feel empty, especially since the study and upgrade are so limited in their options. It still a fun game to play, but the upgrade does feels meaningless a bit too soon in my opinion.
Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot about lantern glass as well. goes to show just how irrelevant most of the upgrade turned out to be at the end since I forgot to use the glass 90% of the time XD
I've got two beacons lit but things just start costing a ridiculous amount of oil with seemingly no way to significantly increase production. I guess each shore would be even easier if you could easily max out the oil upgrades every time but it feels... not great to get less and less oil unlocks per shore the more you play.
I like the idea of the game, the aesthetic and the different coasts' mechanics are interesting at first. A lot of the game gets trivialized fairly quickly in my experience, just put the light and the night shift option on auto, beam set to signal and let it rip. Oil for the beam quickly stops being a concern, though reducing beam power doesn't get you significantly more oil.
Seems like fairly quickly you're just kinda waiting on day/night changes for the oil production to unlock, and then waiting for the oil to produce.
Maybe I'm just powering through it too fast and you have a slower burn/more idle type of feel in mind though.
Thank you so much, this is exactly the kind of feedback we were hoping for! You're right on several points: oil doesn't keep up with prices after the first beacons, and running the wick at Signal on auto is too clearly the best choice, so the wick and night-post decisions stop mattering. We're working on making oil scale with your progress and making the wick a real trade-off. And no, you're not playing it wrong: we want it to stay interesting when you play actively, not just wait. We'll post a devlog when the fix is out. Thanks for playing that far!
